Severe Insomnia at age 11. Please help and answer my questions. 2nd post. 10 points to best answer?

am 11 years old and I suffer from severe insomnia. So bad that my mother is pulling me out next Friday from bad grades, because I cant focus in school. Here is what happeneds- shower @ 8:30pm. Get ready for bed ( brush teeth, get pjs on, ect.) @ 8:45pm. Lay in bed from 9:00- *usually* 4am. Wake up at 6:30. This past week I only got about 9 hours of sleep. Not in a day, in a week. I need tips and things that can help. Home remedies or SPECIFIC medication/natural herb stuff that will let me at least get 5 hours asleep a day? Please help. If you give me some names of herbal things and medication I can show my mother. And maybe, just maybe she will let me stay. But only if it works over the weekend. I am going to miss my friends! I am moving this year too. So i need to stay in school. They live an hour away from me. Please I really need something! =[
Btw this is a second post and best answer gets 10 points

Medically called Insomnia is a condition of sleeplessness and generally you find that it is the older generation and the sick who suffer this problem. This can be caused by various factors or it could also be a combination of both mental and physical aspects that are in some way related to the life of the victim. Jet lag and the shift system in your profession can also contribute to insomnia. It can even be a common problem when you have suddenly lost someone you love very much.

Stress is one of the major causes of sleeplessness. Those people who are worried or depressed about something or those who often experience environmental changes in their place of work etc are also victims of insomnia. Sleeplessness can also be caused by the prevalence of diseases like urinary infections, diabetes, mental illnesses, GERD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, Restless Legs Syndrome and the like. It can also come about as a reaction to certain drugs that you may be taking for some existing illness or due to the victim suffering severe pain from an injury.

There is a misconception that the older you get the lesser you will sleep. But this is not so. Every human being however old requires a minimum of seven to eight hours of sleep every day.

People who suffer this condition also find that they are not able to stay asleep for the requisite number of hours. Some of the symptoms of this disorder is a feeling of utter exhaustion, fatigue, sleepiness during the day, tetchiness and a feeling of unease. In such people their work also gets affected and they are unable to concentrate on their daily activities, resulting in accidents and blunders.

One has to get to the root cause for sleeplessness before it can be treated. Practicing good sleeping habits, eating less at night, reducing or even stopping smoking, all help a person to get better sleep. Another method that has been seen successful is the induced sleep technique, where the bedroom is made conducive for sleeping and not for other activities like watching TV etc.

It has been noticed that people who suffer insomnia try desperately to fall asleep and this only succeeds in making matters worse. In such cases it is better to change the sleep pattern. Staying awake doing something till you feel sleepy is one method to cure this illness. But all said and done there are people who require the help of doctors and medications to instigate them to feel relaxed and sleep.

Possible Insomnia? Help?

have strong information to believe i have primary and chronic insomnia, for reason because i have done my research. I have tried sleeping pills, cough syrup and exercise throughout the day etc but none of them seem to work to put me to sleep. For example I eat healthy, i do not drink soda, only juice and water i do not eat fast food except subway. But once i lay down in the bed i turn the tv off at ten then most of the times i stay awake 3 or 4 hours of tossing turning yawning and eventually i fall asleep. But after about 2 hours i wake up, and lay awake for 30 min most of the time. Then i fall asleep and wake up at 6am when i have to get up. I have tried sleeping pills but when i awake in the middle of the night my head has a slight throb. Also cough syrup i wake up in the middle of the night and i have CRAZY dreams every time i drink cough syrup and sleep.

Is there anything Im doing wrong?
-Not enough energy wasted during the day?

Could I ask them to prescribe me a medical license to smoke cannabis.
-Every time I have smoked i fell asleep when I laid down and had no interruptions, Plus when i awake from this i have a will to get up and get my day going . (Full of energy and no little eye openings to adjust to the light.) On another occasion I smoked then went to sleep at 5pm (Little sleep from night b4) then woke up at 530ish am the next morning rejuvenated.

Please help me this has been going on for about 3 in half months, I want to get a full night sleep again, if theres anyway, please help.

Insomnia is commonly described as an inability to sleep, but actually insomnia encompasses much more than that. Irregular sleep patterns, over sleeping, sleeping at the wrong times and not being able to sleep are all symptoms of an insomnia disorder. Insomnia fatigue is the left over effect of these irregular rest patterns and insomnia fatigue can be almost impossible to function with. But there is hope. If you are struggling with how to get a good night sleep and are looking for a fatigue cure, here is some helpful information.

Insomnia Symptoms

Most people know that people suffering from insomnia may not be able to fall asleep. But oftentimes these people also suffer from agitated sleep patterns. They wake up in the middle of the night regularly and can’t get back to sleep. Or they wake up too early in the morning, almost as if they’re biological clock is off schedule. If you have any of these insomnia symptoms, they can really drag you down. Insomnia can affect you mentally and physically and prolonged periods of sleep troubles can make you feel unable to function during the day at all. You might find yourself noticing insomnia symptoms such as fatigue, depression and easy irritation. It can also make it hard to concentrate.

Insomnia Fatigue

Unfortunately one of the most troubling side effects of these kinds of sleep problems is insomnia fatigue. Insomnia fatigue is fatigue that continues on throughout the day. If you’re finding yourself falling asleep at your desk, needing caffeine to get through the afternoon, or barely able to drive during mid-day because you’re so tired, you may be suffering from insomnia fatigue and you should do the following things to improve your sleep habits.

1) Go to bed at the same time every day. That “internal clock” that people like to joke about isn’t so funny after all. Teach your body that bed time is the same time every night and it will be more likely to adjust to it.

2) Don’t read or watch TV while you’re in bed. Not only do those things become a distraction from sleep, but also by keeping the bed for sleep only you will again train your body that when you’re in bed, its time for sleep.

3) Try drinking herbal tea without honey or sugar before bed. Chamomile blend teas can be encourage relaxation of the body and get you ready for bed. Be sure to go lay down immediately after you’ve finished your tea.

4) If you can’t fall asleep, don’t watch TV. Instead, get up fro bed and go sit in another quiet room for a while. Stimulating yourself with TV, radio or other activity won’t encourage sleep but will hinder it.

5) Create a routine at bed time. Just like the place you sleep and the time you sleep, you can train your body that when you complete certain steps its time for bed. For example, perhaps you take a warm bath immediately prior to bed. Whatever you do, try to do the same pattern for ten to fifteen minutes before bed.

6) Make your bedroom as quiet as possible, and dark. Hang dark blinds over your windows and try sleeping with ear plugs if needed.

7) Consider sleeping to soothing, repetitive audio sounds such as a waterfall or rain falling.

If none of the above suggestions help you see improved sleep habits, you should consult your doctor. He or she may prescribe a sleep aid or suggest something over the counter. Remember that sleep aids are not meant to be taken for long periods of time and can become habit forming. Also, don’t drink alcohol when using prescription of over the counter sleep aids.

Fatigue Cure

It my take time to completely restore your sleep pattern if you’ve suffered from insomnia, particularly if you are under stress. Some people are unable to get themselves in the sleep pattern of getting seven to eight hours of sleep. Even slightly irregular sleep patterns such as interrupted sleep or trouble falling asleep can cause fatigue during the next day. There are lots of fatigue cures to help you manage this fatigue. Here are a few:

Naps: This might sound like a no-brainer. If you’re tired, then take a nap. However, if you’re having insomnia symptoms then naps may only agitate those symptoms. If you are able to nap during the day, test to make sure your sleep problems don’t actually worsen instead of getting better.

Exercise: Adding healthy activity to your daily routine will help to improve your sleep pattern in a variety of ways. Being unfit can reduce energy levels and create feelings of depression. Exercise does not require an expensive gym membership or even a lot of time. Adding a 20 minute walk to your daily activity and weekend bike rides is a great fatigue cure because even this small amount of physical activity helps to release endorphins which is known to improve cognitive functioning and elevate mood states.

Avoid alcohol and drugs: Although you may find what seems like temporary relief to sleep problems by drinking alcohol or using drugs, in the long term these things will only heighten your insomnia and lead to worsened fatigue.

Supplements: Adding a supplement to your daily routine, which triggers the creation of enzymes to eliminate free radical molecules in your body is known to help eliminate fatigue. Protandim is one that works because it decreases oxidative stress, the main cause of free radicals in the body.

Having trouble getting a decent nights sleep? Most people can handle the odd night or two without a full eight hours of sleep. If your insomnia carries on for too many nights in a row, then some good insomnia remedies will be in order. You need to get at least six or seven hour of sleep for an adult, if your to get through your day. Not to mention, the host of health related problems that can occur for not getting enough sleep.

Here are a few simple things you can do to ensure your nights are a restful and revitalizing experience.

How many times have you rolled over at 3am wide awake and stared at the clock? It’s a constant reminder of the fact that your failing to sleep. Get rid of it. Or at least unplug it, and stick it in a drawer. It’s really not helping. If your worried about not having an alarm clock, put it in the next room, and turn up the alarm.

Don’t start doing your taxes in bed;) Or anything kind of thinking that requires brain power. Just keep telling your self it’s time to sleep, and the taxes can wait till the morning.

Your body is very sensitive to light and dark, and knows that light means get up, and dark means go to sleep. If it means wearing one of those goofy looking sleep masks, or getting darker drapes and blinds, then do it. If your a shift worker, then this is essential.

A positive mental outlook can be very effective in helping you to fall asleep. So can a negative one. If you go to bed thinking “I’ll never fall asleep”, then your probably right. If however, you go to bed thinking “I’m gonna sleep like a baby after a big meal”, then you probably will. I think it was Henry Ford, that said something like “It doesn’t mater whether you believe you can do something or not . . . either way your right.”. The power of positive thinking.

The Best Insomnia Remedies

Another neat trick to get your self to fall asleep, is to get one of those sleep educing CDs. There quite a few of them out there, that make great insomnia remedies. They play soothing music and sound effects specifically designed to help people fall asleep. They’re usually pretty inexpensive, and are worth it if they get you a full nights sleep. They also work well with all of the other techniques discussed here.

Insomnia is one of the most misunderstood disorders that many people are suffering today. People who can go to sleep undisturbed do not understand the pain insomnia causes nor do they appreciate the ability they have to fall asleep easily.

There are many reasons insomnia is so misunderstood – multitudes of causes, confusing symptoms and the fact that it occurs when people are generally alone, all aid to the ignorance. Like with anything else, education is the key to understanding, prevention and healing sleeping disorder.

Inability of staying asleep is one of the most widespread diseases, an estimated of 25% of people suffer from one form of insomnia or another. With such a big percentage of afflicted population, you could think that people would have a more tolerant approach but this is usually not the case.

Sleeping disorder can have significant affects not only on persons enjoyment of life, but also on persons health. And not sleeping has very serious health consequences, making one more susceptible to heart disease, depression, not to mention the increased possibility for accidents due to daytime drowsiness.

Education of what causes inability to stay asleep is very important part of prevention of spreading of the disorder. So lets try to shed some light on some of these issues.

Unlike other psychological disorders, insomnia can be caused by virtually anything. Stress, complacency, anxiety, lack of circulation, a shift in schedule, jet lag, a change of diet, new medication, a rise or fall in estrogen levels, poor hygiene, a new daily routine or even just getting older can all cause sleeping problems which if persist can lead to insomnia. With such a vast array of causes, pinpointing and eliminating the causes is often the key to finding the cure.

Insomnia also manifests itself in a lot of different ways. Some people have trouble falling asleep. Other people wake up at different times throughout the night.

Other people wake up in the middle of the night and cannot go back to sleep and still other people wake up early. An unfortunate group of people have a combination of some or all of these symptoms. In general though, insomnia is identified not actually by the sleeping patterns but by the restfulness of the sleep. All insomnia sufferers wake up feeling tired and rundown.

Today, due to the lack of understanding and this educational vacuum, a large number of self-help guides exist to help sufferers. Most of these guides though are not able to provide the necessary cure, mostly due to the wide range of causes and symptoms.

One book stands out amongst the rest as being a complete guide to cure insomnia naturally. It is appropriately called Learn The Natural Way to Staying Asleep and it has helped hundreds of people with their condition. To find out more, click here.

Insomnia Cures, Do These Work?

Insomniacs’ Society

Insomniacs know what F. Scott Fitzgerald was talking about when he wrote that the worst thing in the world is to try to sleep and not to. Insomniacs dread the night while others go to bed without much fuss and sleep soundly away. Insmoniacs keep tossing and turning in bed and worry until morning.

You can identify insomnia sufferers on sight. They sport dark circles under their eyes, are between slim and thin, and are sleepy during the day because of sleep deprivation. The one thing in the world they crave is a good night’s sleep with or without medical prescription. They have have tried all insomnia cures from the unusual to the traditional but without satisfactory results.

What Causes Insomnia?

Insomnia
1000
means habitual sleeplessness. The word is taken from the latin word insomnis meaning sleepless. Insomniacs are not born, they develop because of medical conditions – heart disease, hyperthyroidism, anxiety, asthma, and even just plain feeling blue.

The environment can set off sleepless nights, and a class bully can cause insomnia for a child. This is no laughing matter; if the boss can give you sleepless nights, why can’t the bullies?

What you eat or drink – coffee, colas, and teas can upset your sleep routine. And if you have eaten a huge sandwich just before bedtime expect sleep to come late. Surprisingly a partner who snores too loud can also trigger insomnia.

If you are suddenly losing sleep, check out the mattress, pillow, and the temperature. Once this has been figured out, the problem will be happily resolved, and you go back to your regular sleeping pattern. Knowing what causes your insomnia can help you get the right insomnia cures.

Folksy Insomnia Cures

The tried tested insomnia cures are:

1. A glass of warm milk, and a turkey sandwich will set you nodding. Tryptophan in milk which is also found in turkey meat are great sleep inducers. If these do not work, then the other alternative would be pills.

2. Making a ritual of going to bed – this will send signals to the body that it is near bedtime, and the body clock adjusts. Stick to this regimen.

3. Learn to relax, and if your mind keeps on racing, do something quiet until you feel sleepy again.

4. Stick to your sleeping time, and avoid taking afternoon naps.

Time to See the Doctor

When these simple insomnia cures are not taking effect, it is about time to see a doctor. The doctor will check your health to determine the cause of your sleeplessness. In most cases a doctor will prescribe pills. The pills may be give temporary relief but are also habit forming when abused.

Some insomniacs, in their desperation for sleep, self medicate. Avoid this because this may only make the matter worse. The recent outcome on the Rozerem has shown some positive results, but there are observations that the drug is not advised for people who may have allergies to any of the drug’s components.

Pills are not always the better alternative as insomnia cures. Avoid taking any medication just for the sake wanting a good night’s sleep. One last tip – before taking any un-prescribed insomnia cures, especially pills, make sure that you have your doctor’s advice. He may be able to find out the root cause of your insomnia!
